Cryptocurrency Projects
Crypto-projects-v10.png

Thousands of cryptocurrency projects have emerged since Bitcoin was first created in 2008.

In 2013, less than 70 cryptocurrencies existed, but over the past ten years, the increase in awareness of the technologies’ revolutionary potential has led to an explosion in the number of projects.

This wiki compiles a list of cryptocurrencies from Bitcoin and Ethereum to small caps and maybe even the next unicorn. You will find information on your favorite projects: project history, ecosystem, tokenomics, technology used, project team, and problem solving.

To make searching easy, you can look for any project using these classifications:

  • Layer one (L1): are ecosystem blockchains that have their own characteristics, programming language, validation, consensus and can host multiple projects on their chain.
  • Layer two (L2): for scaling reasons, L2 aim to move transactions and contracts off-chain and bundle them into proofs that are submitted back to the main chain (L1).
  • Privacy coins: some blockchains are known for their privacy properties.
  • NFT and gaming: since 2020, a new trend to tokenize digital arts, games artefacts, virtual lands with a blockchain that proves ownership.
  • DeFi: Decentralized finance is a way to borrow, lend, exchange tokens and multiple other possibilities on-chain.
  • Use case token: some projects have very specific purposes and aim to decentralize their activity with the help of a token that secures the chain
  • Unclassified: crypto mania can be unpredictable, some tokens start as a joke and get hyped. Beware of scams and DYOR.
