R/Bitcoin

From CryptoWiki

Basics

  • A sub of Reddit that has a focus on Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Controlled by Theymos; "Prior to 2011, there were four r/bitcoin moderators and the owner u/Atlaslgo (now deleted), was wholeheartedly against the censorship of free speech. On July 19, 2011, the Bitcoin community at the time got very upset that Atlaslgo had planned to sell r/bitcoin and he was convinced to give it to the bitcointalk.org owner Theymos. The anonymous r/bitcoin owner Theymos still operates the same Bitcoin-centric web portals to this very day."
  • Has a long history of censorship which all originates in the Block Size Debate. After years of infighting a part of the community split off to r/BTC. And afterwards really forked away from Bitcoin (BTC) to create Bitcoin Cash (BCH) which now is the coin most talked about in r/BTC.
  • Jason King, one of the old mods talks about the censorship here.
