Private Key
From CryptoWiki
(Redirected from Private keys)
- This is the part of data that you keep secret in your wallet. Every Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency address has a unique private key attached. Possession of this key is what allows you to maintain control of those coins or tokens. If someone else is able to obtain your key, they also have control of your funds. Not your keys, not your coins.
- So it is like a secret number that unlocks coins sent to the corresponding address. A private key looks like 5J76sF8L5jTtzE96r66Sf8cka9y44wdpJjMwCxR3tzLh3ibVPxh.
- From the Ethereum 2.0 Knowledge Base (11-2020):
"Compared to Ethereum 1.0, where users only have a single private key to access their funds, Ethereum 2.0 offers two different keys. The validator private key and the withdrawal private key."
