  • Mainnet release:
  • Based in:
  • Decentralised market
  • On how they will deal with illegal goods being sold: “Particl is being built with protection to ensure the market does not become an ultimate version of silk road. Our main focus is researching self-governance models that can be adapted to a decentralized network. The self-governance model for Particl will have two components to it: Platform Governance. Protection against internationally deemed illegal goods. "How do we protect the platform?" Privacy Governance. Providing user privacy. "How do we protect the users?" Particl has multiple hard-coded blockades developed for self-governance but leaves the door open for research into better solutions in the future. Examples of current governance features we're exploring: Market Reputation Not linked to ID Ability to de-list immediately Key Words Banning Blacklist Voting filter Default Categories”

How it works

  • Particl will be currency agnostic, meaning it will support the use of many cryptocurrencies with the intent of being an inclusive platform. The exchange mechanism incorporated into the platform will allow for the seamless transition to and from PART. This will first be done through ShapeShifter, later on this should be done within Particl itself. (Since ShapeShift will start using memberships this might change)

Privacy Method being used

  • From their blog (20-1-2020):

"Particl’s escrow system works on smart-contract functionalities and requires a combination of RingCT and CT cryptocurrency transactions so that any transaction information between a buyer and seller remains only known to these two transacting parties. In other words, it makes escrow transactions completely untraceable and unlinkable to any party not associated with a particular marketplace transaction.

And while RingCT has been available, on Monero, for a few years now, it never was built in a way that it could be used in smart-contracts. Additionally, most of the other currently available privacy protocols simply weren’t programmable (can’t be used in smart-contracts) or simply weren’t realistically scalable enough to make sense to use as part of a marketplace product. For this reason, the Particl team had to build its own custom implementation of RingCT (and bulletproofs) so that it could be used by decentralized applications on the Particl network, and that’s only been available for a few months.

The Particl network has been getting much more private! Indeed, the network’s “anon set”, the number of RingCT outputs available to anonymize transactions, has been growing exponentially since the launch of the Open Marketplace, averaging a steady 30% or more increase per month. The anon set currently stands at 5232, a whopping 149% increase since August 2019."

Usage

  • From their blog (20-1-2020):

"Not only has the marketplace consistently been pushing its all-time high number of listings higher and higher, but the number of mainnet transactions on the Particl network has also seen a dramatic rise, now averaging more than 200 transactions per day."

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • “What is important here is that Particl will be a platform on which it will be very easy for developers OUTSIDE the team to come and develop apps of their own. It is not like popular cryptocurrencies like LISK or Ethereum that are much more similar to “blockchainized” coding languages, as every apps built on Ethereum are independent from each others and don’t necessarily benefit all users securing the network at once. Think of Particl has a decentralized blockchain WeChat platform, which is an extremey popular chinese app that tries to bring “everything under the same hood” (payment gateway, social media, shopping, mapping, games, etc). In the same spirit, Particl is a wallet/software in which all Particl apps are available at your fingertips, each bringing different kinds of users that can help secure the network while making good interests on their PARTs stash.“
