Basics
- DeFi Llama is a website and newsletter focusing on DeFi projects and their metrics. It is well known due to its more open stance compared to competitor DeFi Pulse.
- Tracks total value locked (TVL) data and volume data across +150 chains and tons of different protocols (11-2022).
- The project also provides real-time yield metrics, stablecoin charts, liquidation activities, airdrop opportunities, hack info, and beyond.
- Started branching out in many different directions during 2022, including a DEX aggregator.
History
- On 21-3-2023 the company tweeted; “The DeFiLlama team would like to apologize for the events that unfolded yesterday, as a result of poor communication and a misunderstanding within the team. There is no LLAMA token currently planned, and any airdrop will be discussed with the community, as every important decision is.”
- On 20-3-2023, the founder and some team members 'forked' from other team members, seemingly due to disagreements over a DeFi Llama token:
"0xngmi said the person with control of DefiLlama’s web domain and Twitter account had made the decision to announce the forthcoming launch of a DefiLlama token, despite internal pushback from the team. The move led 0xngmi to establish the website llama.fi and a corresponding Twitter account. 0xLlam4, another pseudonymous co-founder of DefiLlama, confirmed to Decrypt that he is the sole person in possession of DefiLlama’s Twitter account and web domain. "We are hoping to resolve things behind closed doors". 0xLlam4 subsequently stopped responding to questions."
