- First big forum about bitcoin. Has trouble with censorship since the Block Size Debate since the forum is owned by Theymos. Is still widely being used for the announcements of new cryptocurrencies however.
- Is also the forum where the infamous slang term HODL came about.
- As FlatOutCrypto put it (23-10-2019):
"Bitcointalk used to be the place to go for debate between devs, a debate which has now mostly moved to Twitter leaving Bitcointalk a barren wasteland of PoW clones and scams.
If you use Bitcointalk as an archive, searching for topics through Google, you will find a lot of very useful information between devs now prominent in the space. It was easier to find information when a lot of it was on there, and debates were less transient than they are now on Twitter."
